When to visit Koh Tao
Due to it's protected location in The Gulf of Thailand and unique location on the world map, Koh Tao is actually a good place to visit more or less all year.

We are often asked about the weather in our part of Thailand when it's bad on The Andaman Side and the truth is that with Koh Tao's unique location, we have a much longer season and don't suffer the effects of the monsoon season as our friends in The Andamans do.

October through January
These are "the winter months", blessed by a nice breeze throughout most of the day. Generally plenty of sun with occasional rain showers.

February through April
February through April are "the summer months". Temperatures get high and chances of rain are minimal.

May & June
May and June are very pleasant. Lots of sun with occassional rain showers to freshen up the air.

July & August
Apart from being extremely busy due to European holidays, these months are great for diving and enjoying life on the beach. Typically a bit of breeze will pick up in the late afternoons.

September & October
Interestingly September and October actually offers some of the best weather throughout the year. The diving on Koh Tao is phenomenal with good chance of whale shark encounters - and you will see the sun a lot.

November & December
These months bring in heavy swells, some rain but typically due to the high mountains in the middle of the island you wouldn't even know it. There is also plenty of sun and great rates to be had due to this being known as the green season.

Holiday Considerations
Most Western holidays are also celebrated in Thailand due to the large number of tourists, so expect Easter, Christmas etc. to be very busy.

The resorts in the lower price range will also typically be fully booked in January through April and again in July and August - especially around full moon time (when a large influx and off fullmoon party goers will arrive in the days following the full moon party).

This year most resorts, which offer online booking were all fully booked for Christmas and New Year by early October, so we recommend you to book your accommodation early.
